State Before Strategy
How high-performing teams execute under pressure.
The talk opens here
Your sales method dies under stress.
Not because it was a bad method, and not because the person using it lacked discipline. Under real pressure — the deal that matters, the quarter that is short, the room that went quiet — trained behavior gets overridden. The seller knows exactly what to do and does something else.
That is where this talk starts, because that is the problem every experienced team in the room has already lived and never had explained to them.
Overview
What this talk does
Most teams do not have a strategy problem. They have a state problem wearing a strategy costume. The plan can be sound and the deck can be ready, yet pressure changes the person carrying the plan: pace accelerates, attention narrows, questions disappear, or improvisation takes over. The room then responds to that execution—not to the strategy as it existed on paper. In this practical keynote, Adrian Provost gives leaders and teams one repeatable way to prepare for consequential moments. Attendees identify their first observable pressure pattern, build and practice the four-minute State Before Strategy Protocol, and learn a short field debrief that turns the next room into a useful repetition. The tone is grounded and participatory, with a clear line between performance practice and medical or psychological claims. The session ends with one action the audience can use Monday.
Core message
Pressure changes the person executing the strategy, not just the strategy.
One method
The four-minute State Before Strategy Protocol.
One action
Run the protocol before one consequential room each day for seven days, then complete the field debrief.
Primary audiences
Sales kickoffs, leadership offsites, founder summits, association and franchise events.
Outcomes
What the audience leaves with
- Diagnose the leak: Identify where execution changes first under pressure for an individual or team.
- Regulate on demand: Build and rehearse the four-minute State Before Strategy Protocol.
- Install the standard: Use a field debrief and a simple manager cadence to make preparation more repeatable.
Delivery arc
Recognition → diagnosis → method → rehearsal → application → baseline → commitment.
Audience fit
Sales kickoffs, executive and leadership offsites, founder summits, franchise and association conventions, revenue-leadership meetings, and teams whose performance varies by person, region, or pressure level.
